So, yesterday… I decided to save a couple euros and took the stairs all the way up to the cupola at St. Peter’s Basilica (that’s 500+ stairs, if you were counting). Today, my legs are in a little bit of pain, as I also spent yesterday checking out the Forum, the inside of the Coliseum and Vatican City.
Oh, I met someone named Gabriel. He’s probably best described as a… beatnick. Chain smoking-art loving-wine bottle in hand-anti-American, Gabriel. He kept me company as we chatted into the night outside the Coliseum (the Coliseum is becoming my nightly hang out, I was there until 1:15ish AM yesterday. There’s just something about that area….). Anyway, he’s probably in Greece now. He was just floating through Rome… from, of all places, Seattle. He did suggest that a week in Rome might be too long of a stay and I’m starting to think he’s right.
It’s a great city, but I’m developing an itch to move about elsewhere. Or, at least… make a couple day excursions out of the region (especially since it’s going to rain for the next few days).
I’m on a timer here, so I’m going to have to mosey along now.
P.S. I have never *ever* seen such a high ratio of beautiful women to ugly men. Ever.

You could go to Florence for the day by Eurostar.
Ah, yes, we have some beautiful women! And some greasy men… That is probably why the Italian girls are so drawn to American boys.
A week in Rome is DEFINITELY too long. I highly, HIGHLY recommend taking a train to Florence for a few days as well as going to the AMALFI COAST. There are a bunch of little towns around the coast (probably the most beautiful part of Italy I’ve ever seen.. and I’ve been around!) and you can take unlimited train rides between the towns (they’re all on the side of mountains, see: http://www.dogsofpompeii.com/images/amalfi_coast_compania.jpg ) for about ten-twenty euros. You can also take a plane to Venice for a bit for seventy euros.. not bad!
As for the orange drink, it’s new to Italy. My parents just came back two weeks ago and were talking about it for days. Blood Orange, it is. And my dad also had quite the liking for it!
And because everything is really laid back in Italy, a bill is not something waiters usually care to rush and get… haha!
I’m really enjoying these entries. Please, don’t stop!
I only wish you would have taken me with you! lol!
Thanks for the suggestion Claudia, see the new post for details. Btw, why didn’t you tell me you liked Rome/Italy?! You and I could’ve toasted blood OJ together! Ha, ‘BOJ’. Say it. Bawj.
Sheldon, check out the new post (going to Amalfi). I’ll be taking a Eurostar train each way, should be good. Florence will have to be on another trip.
Ian, I figured the fact that I’m Italian, am fluent in Italian and have been there five or six times might have given it away… LOL
A Toast! To Bawj! (And a good vacation!)
