Well, after a sort of long and mostly sleepless flight, I am in Rome, Italy. Night at the Museum 2 is a terrible movie…. Lucky me, though. I was able to meet two lovely sisters, Cathy and Magda. They’re on their way to Romania for the next 10 months to get their studying on (No, seriously, they are going to school there) and decided to make a short stop in Rome first (I am jealous of the globetrotting future they have planned). Those two seem like quite the pair (and if they remember my last name and come across this post… HEY! When you’re back in Ontario, maybe you can visit your cousin in Toronto and come out to a show when I get them going! Yeah? Btw, Magda… no more sneaking food into the country :p).
In other news, I have been mistaken for a local on three serparate accounts. Each time… *they* were asking *me* for directions. The moment I spoke English, they all had the same reaction: Laughter and muttering something… nearly inaudibly (if I heard it, I wouldn’t understand anyway). I find the split-second moment of disbelief worthwhile.
Anyway, this computer doesn’t seem to have an accessible USB port, so I can’t put a picture in for this post. Maybe I’ll be able to find a Net Café (lawl, this keyboard has that ‘é’ key…) tomorrow and be able to transfer something off my camera. Until then, teh imagez are secretz.
But, I’m actually starving atm, so I’m going to find something to eat… then grab some pics of the coliseum with its lights all done up.
Ta-tah.

Hi Ian
So glad you arrived safely!!! We checked for arrivals on the airport’s website in Rome and you arrived at 1:25, actually 5 minutes ahead of time. Hope the hotel is as good as you thought! What did you have to eat…. some wonderful Italian food we’re sure!!
Keep sending blogs… it’s so much fun to hear what you are doing.
Hope you got some good pics. We’ll see them when you get home or earlier if you can figure out a way to upload them to your website..
Have a good nights sleep… your clock it all mixed up!!
Luv ya
Talk to you soon

Ah, in *my* country. Enjoy it! Apparently it has changed a lot over the years (sadly). The shopping isn’t as great, the garbage has piled up (in the streets) and the people have gotten ruder. Hopefully your experience doesn’t include too much negativity, and perhaps you will fall in love with the place as many do. Most people discover that they never want to return home! The history in Rome is fantastic, the food is delicious, and the fountain water is fresh as can be (do not be afraid to fill up a water bottle at any random fountain!). I haven’t been there in two years now, which is a long time considering how often my family go, and I miss it like crazy. Take lots of pictures so I can live vicariously through you!
Have fun, Ian! :)

Hey Claudia!
So far, I haven’t had any rude experiences… but, I have noticed that the waiters etc., take forever to bring the bill. Is that not a normal thing here? To bring a bill?
I’ve been looking for shops but haven’t found anything of liking just yet. Most of the clothing stores I come across are for women. I must keep looking! But yeah, I can see what you mean about garbage, haha.
The food is quite good! All I’ve had are pizzas and orange juice (they have this red orange juice… it’s fab) so far. Oh, I’ve had some fountain water… I needed it after the climb @ St. Peter’s, haha.
Gotta run!
Hi Ian
Sounds like you are having lots of fun! So much for the biking legs…. guess it doesn’t help with stair climbing! 500 steps is a lot of climbing. Do a lot of people climb all the way to the top.
How is the pizza… Sheldon says it’s great… is it really? Probably much different from here.
Glad you are meeting some interesting people. Any idea where you plan to go off for a couple of days? Will you just do day trips? Toss a coin in the Trivi fountain!!!
Let us know when you have time and keep safe and keep having lots of FUN!!!
We had crab last night.. missed you much!
Luv ya

The pizza is pretty good. Though, I’m not such a fan of the way the toppings sit on them. The cheese isn’t plastered to the dough as it is in N.A… it sort of floats there… melted… with a kind of runny tomato sauce (the thin crust pizza). The dough/crust alone tastes great.
